The LightHub is a Matter controller. It runs its own fabric, so you can commission Matter bulbs straight onto it and the engine drives them directly — no Hue bridge, no Home Assistant in between.
What works today
- Matter-over-Wi-Fi commissioning from a QR or numeric setup code
- On/off, brightness, and color (color temperature or
xy) control - Group addressing, so a whole room responds to one command
Newest integration
Matter is the youngest of the three light hubs. Hue and Home Assistant are
the most battle-tested paths; Matter is solid for Wi-Fi bulbs and growing.
Pairing a bulb
- Make sure the hub has Wi-Fi credentials — Matter bulbs are joined onto your Wi-Fi during commissioning.
- In the app, choose
Add device → Matterand scan the bulb's QR code (or type the 11-digit setup code). - The hub commissions the bulb onto its fabric and it appears in your device list.
What Rhythm controls
Once commissioned, a Matter bulb takes the same per-room command every other integration gets: a brightness and a color. Bulbs are addressed by their Matter node, and rooms can use Matter groups so the whole room changes together rather than bulb-by-bulb.
On the roadmap
Two things people ask about that aren't here yet:
- Thread — today Matter pairing is over Wi-Fi. Thread-based bulbs aren't supported yet.
- Multi-admin sharing — a bulb commissioned to Rhythm lives on Rhythm's fabric only. Sharing it into Apple Home or Google Home at the same time isn't available yet.
If those matter to you now, pairing the bulb through a Hue bridge or Home Assistant is the more flexible path — see Philips Hue and Home Assistant.
