Requirements

The hardware, network, and bulbs Rhythm needs to do its job.

Phone

iPhone running iOS 17 or later. An Android client is on the roadmap but not shipping yet.

Network

  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi reachable at the install location
  • Phone and LightHub on the same network segment for pairing
  • No outbound firewall to api.rhythm.lighting if you want remote control

Supported bulbs

Rhythm doesn't talk to bulbs by brand — it talks through a light hub. If your bulbs are reachable through one of these, Rhythm can drive them:

  • Philips Hue — any bulb on a Hue Bridge (v2 API). The most mature path. Set up Hue →
  • Home Assistant — any light entity HA already controls: Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, you name it. Set up Home Assistant →
  • Matter — Matter-over-Wi-Fi bulbs, commissioned straight onto the LightHub. Set up Matter →

For adaptive lighting to look its best, the bulb should be at least dimmable; tunable-white (adjustable color temperature) bulbs get the full circadian effect. Color bulbs work too — Rhythm renders the target temperature as a color. On/off-only bulbs are controlled, but only switch, since there's nothing to ramp.

Picking a hub Have a Hue Bridge or Home Assistant already? Use it — those paths are the most capable today. Starting fresh with Matter bulbs? Pair them directly. The light-hub pages cover the specifics of each.
