This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates
it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible
Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the
Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the
QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The
LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your
Matter fabric.
Short answer
Do not assume a Matter-over-Thread button can bind directly to a Zigbee LED driver. Matter over Thread and Zigbee are different application stacks even though both can use 2.4 GHz radios. A direct touchlink-style pairing path normally works only when both devices support the same binding method and device profile. In this case, expect to need a compatible hub, border router, or automation platform between the button and the lighting driver.
What to verify before buying
- Check whether the BILRESA device is Matter over Thread, Zigbee, or a dual-mode product for the exact model number.
- Confirm the TRÅDFRI LED driver protocol and whether it supports direct remote binding with that specific remote.
- If the button is Matter over Thread, make sure you have a real Thread border router and Matter controller.
- If the driver is Zigbee-only, plan for an IKEA, Hue, Home Assistant, or other Zigbee coordinator that supports the driver.
Use an automation layer for mixed protocols
The practical design is: button joins its supported controller, LED driver joins its supported lighting hub, and an automation maps button presses to light actions. That keeps protocol translation in software instead of relying on undocumented direct binding.
Pairing with Rhythm
For compatible Matter lighting, Rhythm LightHub can commission the light from the Rhythm app, but it does not make unrelated Zigbee drivers and Matter buttons directly bind to each other. Get each device reachable through a supported path first, then use Rhythm for the room’s normal lighting state, scenes, and day-to-night behavior.
Pairing with Rhythm
For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
