This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates
it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible
Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the
Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the
QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The
LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your
Matter fabric.
Short answer
When a Matter bulb refuses to join, start with the basics: a clean factory reset, a valid setup code, Bluetooth enabled on the phone if the bulb uses BLE commissioning, and all controllers on the same local network. Repeating the same failed pairing attempt without clearing the half-paired state usually makes the next attempt harder.
Pairing checklist
- Factory-reset the bulb using the exact on/off sequence from the manufacturer.
- Wait for the bulb to show its pairing blink pattern before opening the app.
- Keep the phone on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network if the bulb is Matter over Wi-Fi.
- Turn on Bluetooth and local-network permissions for the app doing commissioning.
- If the bulb was previously added to another ecosystem, remove it there first or generate a Matter multi-admin code from that ecosystem.
Using Rhythm for this setup
For compatible Matter bulbs, you can pair through the Rhythm app and LightHub by scanning the QR code or entering the setup code. If pairing still fails, reset the bulb again, restart the LightHub, and keep the phone, LightHub, and bulb close together for the first attempt.
Pairing with Rhythm
For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
