This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your Matter fabric.

Start with the control stack

When a smart light stays on one color, treat it as a state problem before assuming the LEDs have failed. A stale scene, local effect, cloud command, or half-finished firmware update can keep sending the same color back to the light.

  1. Turn off every schedule, scene, music mode, and automation that can write color to the light.
  2. Power-cycle the fixture or controller for at least 30 seconds, then test from the manufacturer app before testing voice assistants or other hubs.
  3. Set the light to plain white at several brightness levels. If white works but colors do not, the issue is probably software state; if one color channel is missing, hardware is more likely.
  4. Update firmware, then repeat the power cycle. Some lights need a restart after an OTA update before color commands apply normally.
  5. If the light is grouped with other lights, remove it from the group and test it alone.

Reset only after isolating automations

Factory-resetting too early can hide the real cause. If an external automation immediately writes lime green, blue, or another fixed color after the reset, the light will look broken again. Disable automations first, then reset and re-add only if direct app control still cannot change color.

For Rhythm rooms

If the light is Matter-compatible, add it through the Rhythm app and LightHub by scanning the Matter QR code or entering the setup code while your phone, LightHub, and light are on the same local network. After pairing, put the light in a room and verify Rhythm can change both brightness and color temperature before rebuilding scenes.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
