This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your Matter fabric.

Short answer

Matter multi-admin is designed for exactly this situation: one device can be shared from one ecosystem to another without factory-resetting it. The catch is that the sharing code is temporary, each ecosystem may expose a different subset of features, and Thread devices depend on the Thread credentials and border-router path available to each controller.

A clean multi-admin sequence

  1. Pick one primary controller and add every device there first. Do not alternate ecosystems device by device.
  2. Update firmware on the lock, hub, speakers, displays, and border routers before sharing.
  3. From the primary controller, use Turn On Pairing Mode or Share with another app to create a fresh Matter setup code.
  4. Add that code to the second ecosystem immediately. Most generated codes expire.
  5. Test one device completely before repeating the process for the rest.

Common failure points

  • Reusing the original QR code after the device is already commissioned.
  • Having separate Thread networks instead of one shared Thread credential set.
  • Assuming feature parity. Locks, sensors, and security devices often expose different controls in different apps.
  • Moving too quickly. Let each controller finish syncing before adding the next device.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lighting, the same principle applies. Pair the light to the Rhythm LightHub first if Rhythm will be your lighting controller, then use Matter multi-admin when you need that device visible elsewhere. Avoid factory-resetting unless you want to remove it from the existing fabric entirely.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
