This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your Matter fabric.

Start with the failure mode

A TV sync box that still works in its own app but shows as non-responsive in Apple Home usually has a controller, fabric, or network problem. A box that also fails in the vendor app may need a power, HDMI, Wi-Fi, or factory-reset check before Matter is involved.

Clean re-pairing checklist

  1. Power-cycle the sync box, TV/Apple TV, router, and the Apple home hub or Homebridge host.
  2. Confirm the sync box is healthy in the vendor app before trying to add it to another ecosystem.
  3. Remove stale copies from Apple Home and from the phone's Matter accessory list if your OS exposes one.
  4. If the box was already added to one Matter fabric, use that controller's sharing or multi-admin flow when possible. If that path is broken, factory-reset the box and start over.
  5. Pair while your phone, controller, and sync box are on the same local network. Avoid guest Wi-Fi, VPNs, and isolated IoT VLANs during setup.

Homebridge versus Matter

Homebridge can be useful when a plugin exposes a vendor API better than the Matter implementation, but it should not be used to paper over a half-removed Matter pairing. Clean up the old pairing first, then choose one primary control path for daily on/off automation with the TV.

LightHub context

If your setup involves compatible Matter lights rather than a vendor-only sync feature, the Rhythm LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app by scanning the Matter QR code or entering the setup code. Keep the phone, LightHub, and lighting device on the same local network so commissioning and local control can complete reliably.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
