This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your Matter fabric.

Short answer

After a power outage, do not immediately reset every bulb. First restore the network in the right order: router, access points, hubs, then lights. Many smart bulbs look broken because they boot before Wi-Fi, DHCP, mDNS, or the controller is ready. Factory reset is the last step, not the first one.

Recovery checklist

  1. Bring the router and Wi-Fi access points fully online before switching smart lights back on.
  2. Restart the lighting hub or Matter controller after the network is stable.
  3. Power-cycle one affected room and wait two to five minutes before judging whether bulbs are still offline.
  4. If a bulb is stuck on a default color, try controlling it from the primary controller before resetting it.
  5. Only factory-reset bulbs that remain unreachable after the network and controller are confirmed healthy.

If the setup code is missing

For Matter lights, keep a private record of the QR code, setup code, model, room, and purchase batch before installation. If the code is printed only on packaging or a tiny label, photograph it and store it with your home documentation. Without the setup code, a reset Matter device may be impossible to commission again through a new controller.

Use a controlled commissioning path

For compatible Matter lighting, Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission from the Rhythm app by scanning the Matter QR code or entering the setup code. Keep the phone, LightHub, and bulb on the same local network, make sure the bulb is in pairing mode, and avoid band-steering problems by giving 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bulbs a clear path to the access point.

Prevent the next outage from becoming a rebuild

  • Put routers, bridges, and LightHub-class controllers on a small UPS if outages are common.
  • Document reset procedures and setup codes before installing bulbs in ceilings or fixtures.
  • Use rooms and automations that can tolerate a bulb being unavailable temporarily instead of cascading failures.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
