How do you share IKEA Matter lights between Apple Home and Alexa?

This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. Short answer

For IKEA Matter-over-Thread lights, the clean path is usually to commission the light once in the ecosystem that owns your Thread border router, then share it to the second ecosystem with Matter multi-admin. If Apple Home and a HomePod mini are already providing the Thread network, do not assume a second Thread border router is required just to let Alexa issue lighting commands. You still need an Alexa device that can act as a Matter controller on the same home network.

Use one Thread network, then share the light

1. Update the IKEA light firmware before judging stability. Newer Matter firmware can materially improve multi-admin behavior.
2. Add the light to Apple Home first if the HomePod mini is your known Thread border router.
3. Verify basic on, off, brightness, and color control in Apple Home before adding another ecosystem.
4. In Apple Home, use the accessory settings to enable Matter pairing or sharing mode and generate a fresh code.
5. Open Alexa, add a Matter device, and use that new sharing code. Do not factory-reset the bulb unless the first pairing is broken.

What the extra hub does and does not do

An Echo used as a Matter controller gives Alexa a local Matter relationship with the light. It does not replace the radio path that the light actually uses. A Thread light still needs healthy Thread coverage and a border router; a Wi-Fi Matter light still needs solid Wi-Fi. A vendor hub such as DIRIGERA can be useful for firmware, device management, or IKEA-specific features, but adding it only to bridge two working Matter ecosystems may create more moving parts than necessary.

Pairing with Rhythm

If the same room will also be managed in Rhythm, keep the lighting topology simple. Commission compatible Matter lights through the path you trust, confirm they respond locally, then assign the room behavior in Rhythm. Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing.
