What should you do when Govee LAN control disappears from a light?

How to keep smart-light automations reliable when a vendor firmware update removes or changes local LAN control.

This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your Matter fabric.

Short answer

If a light loses its LAN-control option after a firmware update, treat it as a vendor capability change until proven otherwise. Do not build critical lighting automations on an unofficial local API unless you have a fallback path.

Stabilize the light first

  1. Power-cycle the light, controller, and router, then confirm the light still works in the vendor app.
  2. Check whether LAN control moved to a different device settings page or requires the phone to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Avoid repeated factory resets unless you are ready to rebuild scenes and automations. Resets rarely restore a removed firmware feature.
  4. Ask vendor support whether the exact model and firmware still support LAN control. Model numbers matter.

Build a safer automation path

For accent lights, a cloud or Bluetooth fallback may be acceptable. For room lighting that must respond instantly, prefer products with documented local control through Matter, Hue Bridge, Home Assistant, or another maintained local integration.

Build on a reliable local path

Rhythm is strongest when lights have a reliable local control path. Compatible Matter lights can be commissioned from the Rhythm app through the LightHub by scanning the Matter QR code or entering the setup code, with the phone, LightHub, and light on the same local network. That keeps day-to-day lighting behavior local instead of depending on a vendor cloud toggle that may change later.

Pairing with Rhythm

For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
