This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates
it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible
Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the
Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the
QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The
LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your
Matter fabric.
Short answer
When a color-capable light is added through Matter, the controller may only expose the standard Matter lighting clusters it understands. That can mean on/off, brightness, color temperature, or basic color, while vendor-specific effects, segmented RGB controls, and scene engines remain available only in the manufacturer app. If RGB controls vanished after Matter pairing, the first question is whether the light itself lost its configuration or whether the Matter controller is only showing a reduced capability set.
Separate app limits from device failure
- Open the manufacturer app and check whether color, scenes, and effects still work there.
- If they work in the manufacturer app but not in Apple Home or another Matter controller, it is most likely a Matter feature-exposure limitation, not a dead light.
- If they do not work anywhere, power-cycle the light at the wall for a full minute, then repeat the vendor reset sequence from the product manual.
- Remove the accessory from every controller that may still hold it, including phone-level Matter accessory settings, then factory-reset before pairing again.
What to expect from Matter lighting
Matter is best at common light behavior: reliable power, dimming, color temperature, and basic color. It is not a guarantee that every vendor scene, music mode, gradient segment, or dynamic effect appears in every app. If those features matter, keep the vendor app installed for advanced effects and use Matter for daily control and automations.
Pairing with Rhythm LightHub
For compatible Matter lights, Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission the device from the Rhythm app by scanning the Matter QR code or entering the setup code. Keep the phone, LightHub, and light on the same local network during setup. After pairing, use Rhythm for local room control and adaptive lighting, while checking the vendor app for any proprietary RGB scene controls that Matter does not expose.
Pairing with Rhythm
For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
