This guide answers a smart-lighting or Matter lighting question and translates
it into a practical checklist for Rhythm users. If you are pairing compatible
Matter lights, the Rhythm Lighting LightHub can commission them from the
Rhythm app: choose Add Device, select Matter, then scan the
QR code or paste the MT: payload / 11-digit setup code. The
LightHub performs the commissioning handshake and keeps the device on your
Matter fabric.
Short answer
Unexpected light-switch activations are usually caused by an automation, direct device association, voice-assistant integration, central-scene binding, or a physical wiring/load issue. If the switches continue after the hub is unplugged, look beyond cloud routines and inspect local associations and the electrical side.
Start with logs
- Check the hub event history for the exact command source: automation, app, voice assistant, physical, association, or unknown.
- Compare timestamps against routines, sunset triggers, power events, and firmware updates.
- If the log says a voice assistant triggered the light, remove that integration temporarily and verify whether new events still appear.
If it continues without the hub
- Check Z-Wave direct associations on the switch. A second device can command it without the hub creating a new automation event.
- Inspect multi-way wiring and traveler configuration, especially on three-way circuits.
- Look for stuck paddles, auxiliary switch chatter, or a neutral/load issue that can make the switch misread input.
- Air-gap or fully power-cycle the affected switches according to the manufacturer instructions.
- If line-voltage wiring is suspect, use a qualified electrician rather than guessing inside the box.
Rebuild only after isolating
Deleting every integration can hide the clue. Change one variable at a time: voice assistant, hub automation, direct association, then physical circuit. If only two switches on related circuits act up, treat that as a wiring or association pattern, not random haunting.
Lighting-system takeaway
For adaptive lighting systems such as Rhythm, stable underlying switches matter. Keep smart bulbs powered, avoid duplicate routines in multiple ecosystems, and let one controller own the normal day-to-night behavior. Compatible Matter lights can be commissioned through Rhythm LightHub by scanning the QR code or entering the setup code with the phone, LightHub, and device on the same local network.
Pairing with Rhythm
For Matter lights and bulbs, the LightHub is the bridge between the app and the device during pairing. Keep the LightHub, phone, and device on the same local network, keep Bluetooth enabled when the device requires BLE commissioning, and make sure the setup code has not expired or already been used by another fabric. Once paired, the LightHub can control the device locally as part of your Rhythm setup.
