What should you check after a Hue Bridge update before using Rhythm?
Confirm the Hue Bridge is stable in its own app first, then reconnect the room to Rhythm so one clean local path owns the daily lighting state.
What should you check after a Hue Bridge update before using Rhythm?
If a Hue Bridge update has everyone nervous, the real concern is not the update button by itself. The concern is whether the bridge still exposes a stable local room path afterward. The fix is to stop treating this as a pile of scenes and make Rhythm the source of truth for the room once the bridge is proven healthy.
What this solves
- You want to avoid breaking a large Hue setup with dozens of lights.
- You want a quick reality check after a bridge firmware update.
- You want Rhythm to keep the room stable instead of juggling vendor scenes and voice routines.
- You want to know when the problem is actually the bridge path, not your room settings.
Before you start
- Make sure the square Hue Bridge v2 is on the same local network as LightHub. TODO: verify whether the Reddit post means a standard Hue Bridge v2 or another hardware variant before publishing.
- Confirm the Hue app can still see the bridge and control the affected room.
- Keep the bridge on stable wired Ethernet and stable power during the check.
- If Rhythm already imports this Hue setup, note any duplicate automations in Hue, Alexa, Google Home, or Home Assistant before changing anything.
Do it in Rhythm
- Open the Hue app first and confirm the bridge is online, reachable, and still controlling the lights you care about.
- If the Hue side is healthy, open Rhythm and go to
Add device -> Hue Bridgeif you need to relink the hub. - Press the large button on top of the Hue Bridge when Rhythm prompts for authorization.
- Let Rhythm import the Hue rooms again, then check one room for basic on, off, brightness, and color-temperature behavior.
- Set the room's normal Day and Sleep behavior in Rhythm so the bridge remains the device path while Rhythm becomes the room-level source of truth.
Avoid double automation
Do not leave the same room on overlapping Hue schedules, voice-assistant routines, and Rhythm curves after the update. Keep Hue for firmware, bridge health, and any device-specific effects. Let Rhythm own the ordinary daily room state.
When this is actually a device problem
If the Hue app itself cannot control the room, or the bridge keeps disappearing from the local network, stop tuning Rhythm. Fix the bridge path first: Ethernet, power, IP reservation, and local discovery matter more than room settings at that point.
Good Rhythm settings to start with
- Start with one calm Day profile instead of multiple scene changes.
- Keep Sleep warm and dim so the room has a predictable fallback if a special scene fails.
- Use one imported Hue room first before rebuilding the whole house.
Once the room is stable, let Rhythm run the daily curve and keep the vendor app for firmware or special effects.
