Power a single-color FCOB LED strip safely at full brightness

A 24V single-color FCOB strip can be simple workbench lighting, but the power supply, strip rating, heat, and wiring still need to match.

A single-color 24V FCOB strip does not need WLED just to be bright. If the strip is designed for constant-voltage 24V input, a correctly sized DC supply will run it at full output. The important part is matching the electrical rating and managing heat, not adding a controller you do not plan to use.

Check the strip and supply together

  1. Confirm the strip label or datasheet says 24V constant voltage and note the watts per meter.
  2. Multiply watts per meter by the installed length, then choose a supply with comfortable headroom above that load.
  3. Match polarity before connecting power. A barrel connector is convenient, but it does not prove the supply and strip are compatible.
  4. Mount high-output FCOB strip to an aluminum channel or another heat-spreading surface, especially under a workbench shelf.
  5. Test the full five meters for several minutes while checking connector warmth, voltage drop, and whether the far end is dimmer.

When a controller still helps

Add a PWM dimmer or smart controller if you want lower evening output, scenes, schedules, or integration with the rest of the room. If the strip becomes part of a Rhythm-managed workspace later, use a supported lighting path and keep the power hardware conservative. Software cannot fix an undersized supply, hot strip, or overloaded connector.
