How do you schedule a Philips Hue smart plug with Rhythm?

Import your Hue Bridge, put the plug in the right room, and let Rhythm own one predictable daily schedule instead of stacking Hue routines.

How do you schedule a Philips Hue smart plug with Rhythm?

A Hue smart plug can feel awkward in the Hue app because schedule screens often describe every device as a light. If your real goal is a lamp or other lighting load that turns on and off predictably, the fix is to stop treating this as a pile of scenes and make Rhythm the source of truth for the room.

What this solves

  • You want the plug on during the useful part of the day and off overnight.
  • You do not want separate Hue routines fighting a Rhythm room schedule.
  • You want the plug to stay available in Hue while Rhythm runs the normal room behavior.
  • You want one place to change the room's timing later.

Before you start

  • Use a square Philips Hue Bridge v2 on the same local network as the LightHub.
  • Pair the smart plug with Hue first and confirm the Hue app can switch it on and off.
  • Use the plug only with a load that fits the manufacturer's rating and intended use.
  • Have physical access to the Hue Bridge button.

Do it in Rhythm

  1. In Rhythm, go to Add device → Hue Bridge.
  2. Press the large round button on top of the Hue Bridge within 30 seconds.
  3. Wait for the devices behind the bridge to appear, then place the plug in the room it controls.
  4. Set that room's normal Day and Sleep behavior. Use the Day profile for the hours when the lighting load should be available and the Sleep profile for the overnight state.
  5. Test the handoff once: confirm the plug responds in Rhythm, then confirm it still responds in Hue.

Avoid double automation

Disable any Hue automation that switches the same plug at the same time as Rhythm. The Hue app can remain installed for firmware, pairing, and manual checks; it does not need a second daily schedule for a room Rhythm already controls.

When this is actually a device problem

If the Hue app cannot switch the plug, the bridge disappears from the network, or the plug drops offline, stop adjusting profiles. Repair the Hue device path first. Rhythm can coordinate a healthy room, but it cannot make an unreachable plug reliable.

Good Rhythm settings to start with

  • Start with one Day profile and one Sleep profile rather than several small schedules.
  • Make the overnight state unambiguous so the connected lighting load is not left on accidentally.
  • Use temporary room overrides for guests or unusual evenings, then let the room return to its normal profile.
  • Change only one timing rule at a time while you test.

Once the room is stable, let Rhythm run the daily curve and keep the vendor app for firmware or special effects.
