Can one Hue strip light three separated kitchen cabinets?
When cabinets are separated by windows or walkways, plan each under-cabinet run around power, cut points, and control before buying one long Hue strip.
Separated cabinets make strip lighting harder than it looks. A Hue lightstrip can be cut at marked cut points, but the cut pieces do not each become independent plug-in lights unless every segment has a compatible controller, power path, and connector plan. Treat the kitchen as three lighting runs first, then decide whether Hue is still the right hardware for each run.
Plan each cabinet as its own run
- Measure the underside of each cabinet and mark where power is actually available.
- Check the exact Hue strip model for supported cut points, extensions, and Litcessory-style connector compatibility before cutting anything.
- Do not assume one starter kit can be cut into three separately powered strips. Each separately controlled run normally needs its own controller and power supply.
- If you want all three cabinets to act as one light, compare the cost and reliability of extension cables across the gaps against buying separate strips.
- For kitchen task lighting, prioritize clean white output, safe cable routing, and easy service over elaborate color effects.
Keep the daily scene simple
Once the strips are mounted and reachable in Hue, set up a practical cooking brightness and a lower evening scene. Rhythm can then use the finished cabinet lighting as part of the room's normal Day or Sleep state, but it cannot make an unsupported cut segment behave like a separate Hue product.
