Can Hue Sync Box activity turn off a zone or light?

TV sync works best when the entertainment lights are allowed to be dramatic and the rest of the room gets out of the way. If starting a Hue Sync Box session should also turn off a lamp, zone, or bias light, build the behavior as an explicit lighting state instead of relying on a vague “sync started” side effect.

Choose the control point

• First decide which lights belong to the Hue entertainment area and which lights should stay outside it.
• Create a normal viewing scene for the non-sync lights: off, very dim, or a low warm level depending on how you use the room.
• Check the Hue app and Sync Box controls for the automation triggers available in your version before assuming that every sync state can trigger every action.
• If Hue cannot trigger the exact zone change directly, use a supported automation layer such as Apple Home, Home Assistant, Alexa, or a physical Hue button to start the scene and the sync session as a two-step routine.
• Keep one manual “movie mode” control so the room is recoverable when HDMI detection or app state is unreliable.

Return the room after the movie

For Rhythm users, the clean pattern is to let Hue handle the entertainment effect and let Rhythm own the ordinary room state. When the Sync Box session is over, bring the room back to the Day or Sleep lighting you normally want instead of leaving stray zones off from the last TV session.
